3Taps ("the app", "we") is a home screen and focus app for Android. This policy explains what the app does with your information.
The short version
3Taps works on your phone. We don't collect, store or receive your information. There is no account, no advertising and no analytics. Notes are sent only to apps and services you connect yourself.
Information the app uses on your phone
- Installed apps, so the app can list them on its home screen and let you mark some as distracting.
- Which app is on screen, through Android's Accessibility service ("3Taps Guard"), if you turn it on. It's used to show the pause before apps you marked as distracting, show the ✓ Done button, close apps when your time is up, and lock the screen. If you choose "Close all apps" (Premium), Guard also reads the Recent apps screen to press its Close all button. It never reads what is on screen inside your apps, your messages or what you type.
- Screen lock, through Android's device admin permission, if you turn on "Turn the screen off". It is used only to turn the screen off and lock the phone when you ask.
- Microphone, only while you tap Dictate or Record in a quick note.
- Your settings, notes, voice recordings and simple counts, such as how often you paused today and how long you focused. These are stored on your phone. Daily counts older than five weeks are deleted automatically. Everything is removed when you uninstall the app.
None of this is sent to us.
Notes you send to other services
If you connect a destination in the app, each new note is sent directly from your phone to that destination:
- Google Docs or Google Tasks, after you sign in with Google. 3Taps can access only the one "3Taps Notes" document it creates in your Google Drive, and your Google Tasks.
- Microsoft OneNote, after you sign in with Microsoft. 3Taps can create pages in your notebook.
- Notion or Todoist, after you sign in. During sign-in, our sign-in server receives your access token from that service and hands it to your phone. It holds the token for at most five minutes, never logs it and keeps nothing afterwards.
- A folder you choose (for example an Obsidian vault), a webhook address you enter, or an app you pick to share to.
Access tokens are encrypted on your phone with a key kept in the Android Keystore. You can disconnect any destination at any time. Each service's own privacy policy applies to what it receives.
Dictation uses your phone's speech recognition service. On many phones this is provided by Google and may process audio online under Google's privacy policy.
Google user data
3Taps' use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google access only to add your notes to your own document and task list. We don't transfer, sell or use it for advertising, and no person at 3Taps can read it.
Purchases
Premium is sold through Google Play, which processes payment under Google's privacy policy. We receive only confirmation that you have Premium, not your name, email or payment details.
Deleting your data
Everything 3Taps stores is on your phone. Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android Settings › Apps › 3Taps, deletes it. To remove 3Taps' access to your accounts, disconnect it in the app, or remove it at myaccount.google.com/permissions, account.live.com/consent/Manage, or in Notion and Todoist's connected apps settings. Notes already sent to other services stay there until you delete them.
Children
3Taps is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version here.
